Preliminary Report on Brutally Murdered Awami League Activists
The Global Center for Democratic Governance (GCDG) has released a preliminary report documenting the brutal killings of Awami League (AL) activists in Bangladesh following the political transition of August 2024. The report outlines a disturbing pattern of state-sanctioned violence, extrajudicial killings, and targeted attacks carried out under the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Covering incidents from July 2024 to May 2025, the report identifies numerous Awami League leaders and grassroots organizers who were abducted, tortured, and killed. Many of these killings occurred in police custody or involved suspicious encounters with law enforcement. In most cases, families were denied access to justice, and the media remained silent or complicit. The report highlights the systematic nature of this repression, with particular concern for the lack of accountability within the judicial and law enforcement institutions.
This document has been prepared by GCDG to shed light on the scale and severity of the political persecution and to call for international attention and action. The full PDF version of the report is available for download.
