Report on Annual General Meeting (2025 – 2026)
It is with great honour and a deep sense of responsibility that we present the First Annual Report of the Global Center for Democratic Governance (GCDG). This publication marks a significant milestone in our collective journey toward strengthening democratic values, protecting human rights, and promoting justice, equality, and good governance for the people of Bangladesh and the global community.
The story of GCDG is founded on the long and enduring struggle of the Bengali people for justice, equity, human dignity, and democratic freedom, an aspiration that reached its historic peak with the victory of the Liberation War of 1971. In exchange for the sacrifice of 3 million martyrs and the honor of 200 thousand women, the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the vision of a democratic, secular, and just society remain the guiding inspiration for our work. While the dreams of the Liberation War have faced repeated challenges, including political disruptions and the re-emergence of anti-liberation elements, the resilience of pro-democracy forces has consistently driven progress and hope.
Against this backdrop, Canada-based think tank organization GCDG was established by a group of liberal intellectuals from the Bangladeshi diaspora and within Bangladesh to create a dynamic platform for research, dialogue, and advocacy. Our mission is rooted in the belief that democratic governance, human rights, and social justice are not merely ideals, they are essential foundations for a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous society. Through rigorous analysis, community engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and global collaboration, we seek to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of these values.
This inaugural annual report highlights our core vision, mission, and values while showcasing our key initiatives in areas such as democracy and good governance, secularism and social justice, gender equality, youth leadership, media literacy, and press freedom. It also reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of excellence in the work we undertake.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our members, partners, researchers, volunteers, and supporters for their unwavering dedication and belief in our shared vision. As we move forward, we remain committed to expanding our work, deepening our impact, and contributing to a future where the spirit of the Liberation War, democracy, equality, human dignity, and social justice, guides every aspect of national life. With renewed commitment and hope, we present this report as a testament to what we have begun and an invitation to all who believe in a democratic and just Bangladesh to join us in this vital journey.
