The Spotlight, Volume-1, Issue-9: Remembering August 15 – The Assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Spotlight Vol-1, Issue-9 is a commemorative issue dedicated to August 15—the darkest day in Bangladesh’s history. On this day in 1975, the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most members of his family were brutally assassinated by anti-liberation forces.
This issue reflects on that national tragedy not only as a moment of immense loss but also as the beginning of a long and painful disruption to Bangladesh’s democratic and progressive aspirations. Through reflections, political commentary, and historical analysis, contributors examine how the spirit of the Liberation War was undermined and how the consequences of that rupture are still visible in today’s socio-political fabric.
The issue reinforces GCDG’s commitment to upholding the ideals of democracy, justice, secularism, and sovereignty—ideals that Bangabandhu lived and died for.
