About the Report

The Global Center for Democratic Governance (GCDG) presents this report to document custodial deaths in Bangladesh during the 22-month period from September 2024 to June 2026. The report records more than 100 custodial deaths and raises serious concerns regarding the protection of the right to life, due process, judicial oversight, and accountability within the criminal justice system.

The report highlights concerns about deaths in state custody, allegations of arbitrary detention, denial of fair trial guarantees, and impunity for those responsible for human rights violations. It also notes that restrictions on media freedom and intimidation of journalists and human rights defenders may have limited independent scrutiny of custodial deaths.

Every death in state custody requires prompt, independent, impartial, and effective investigation in accordance with international human rights standards.
